Love is a universal and spiritual bond that everyone wishes to take a part. It is a wonderful blessing for every living being. There are so many definitions for love. I think all of us have a unique definition for it according to different kinds of life experiences. We have heard famous love stories such as Romeo and Juliet, Jack and Rose, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony, and more. Today I’m going to tell you that kind of love story, and it is not a fairy tale.
It is about Bill and Glad, they have been together for over 50 years. They lived together, sharing everything happily. They have spent much of their time outdoors, primarily cycling. Even they have been challenged with many things in their lives, and they couldn’t challenge Alzheimer’s disease. Glad’s health began to decline at an alarming rate, and she was diagnosed with the disease in 2004. After that, she has huge trouble walking on her own without falling over. Cycling was an integral part of their lives; with the disease, they missed that outdoor activity.
However, Bill did not like to give up their story. They tried to do anything to see his wife Glad’s smile. He had an idea to have a special bike built that suits a person who is incapable of the mobility a regular bicycle would require. This was the beginning of the “bike chair”. It was a combination of “bike” and “wheelchair.” Bill used his knowledge gained from overseas to create the bike chair. Bill has handed over a draft design to his friend Ken McKenzie to build it. Therefore an old-school baby-blue bike was modified to have two wheels on the front with a chair, and one wheel on the back, a seat belt, and leg rest equipped between them.
“When we first started dating, I used to ride my bike from where I lived to where she was, and that was about 5 kilometers, on a Saturday afternoon, ‘cause that was the only chance we had to get together,” Bill explained in a video by CVCNow.
Bill has done everything for his wife “from the moment she wakes up until the moment she goes to bed,”. In the real sense of the word, glad is a lucky wife to having a lovely and caring husband like Bill. You can see videos and clicks on how they spent their lives with Glad’s disease.
“I don’t count it a burden whatsoever, I count it a great privilege to care for this one I have loved all these years. She’s my princess and I’m her William and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Bill said.

“I used to ride everywhere on my bike, and Glad had her bike as well, and we’d put a bay chair on the front of her bike, so we carried our babies around on the bikes. Bike’s been part of our lives, and I guess that has something to do with this now.” He continued.
Finally, The Bike chair is attempted to develop a safe and sturdy version of the Bike Chair to be provided to those with mobility problems. Bill has done it not only for his Glad but also for all the people who have difficulties walking.
