The Red Wolf Recovery Program wrote in a post, “This red wolf pair was made when a number of management actions came together, and the two red wolves then followed their natural instincts by getting together, marking their territory, and mating.”

“Every generation gives the red wolf a new hope, which is a reason to be happy and celebrate!”

The babies were found in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina.

NPR says that the number of red wolves is going down because people are hunting them and damaging their natural habitat.

People think that red wolf breeding programs are important for the survival of the population.

On its website, the US Fish and Wildlife Service talked about how important Species Survival Plan (SSP) facilities have been for keeping the birth rate of red wolves high.

During the breeding season of 2021-2022, there were 38 more red wolf mating pairs than the year before.

“There are about 241 red wolves in 45 SSP facilities across the country as of August 2021.” During the breeding season of 2020-2021, 30 breeding pairs were set up, and 23 pups were born in 6 litters, the agency said.

“Four adults were released into the wild in the NC NEP, and four pups were raised by a wild red wolf. This added 19 pups to the SSP population. ” For the 2021-2022 breeding season, there will be 38 breeding pairs. This is because there is more space and the population is growing.
