Three animals with an unbreakable bond say goodbye to one-third of their group.

In 2001, police raided a drug dealer’s home and found a lot more than they expected. Baloo, an American black bear, Leo, a lion, and Shere Khan, a Bengal tiger, were abused in the drug dealer’s basement. The Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove gave them a second chance at life.

The three were so close that they couldn’t live without each other. The group, known as BLT, was happy for 15 years. That was all until the workers at the sanctuary found something terrible. The patient wouldn’t move and barely ate, so the staff decided to do exploratory surgery to find out what was wrong. The doctor said that Leo’s health was terrible. They knew the beloved lion didn’t have much time left because 80% of his liver was full of tumors that couldn’t be removed.

They started a party to honor Leo’s life. They worked hard to help Leo’s brothers get ready for life without him, and they helped BLT enjoy their last time together.
