EMOTIONAL MOMENT A BABY KOALA HUGS UNCONSCIOUS MOM DURING LIFE-SAVING SURGERY

Lizzie and Phantom are getting better in an outdoor area of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for koalas. They’re doing great. Phantom is gaining weight and learning more about his temporary home. And, of course, mom and baby are giving each other more sweet hugs. After being hit by a car, Lizzie and her baby, Phantom, were taken to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Phantom, who was only six months old, was not hurt in the accident.

On the other hand, Lizzie didn’t look so good since she had been hit in the face and her lung had collapsed. She had to go under the surgeon’s knife to stay alive. But this mother marsupial wasn’t alone during the procedure that saved her baby’s life. Phantom went with her to the hospital and clung to her as she was treated. The vets didn’t separate them because Phantom was too young to be on his own and because it would probably be too stressful for both koalas to be separated. Lizzie is expected to make a full recovery, which is good news for them. Once that is done, they will be put back into the wild.
