Cycling is one of the most eco-friendly ways to get around, and now it’s even more so, thanks to this solar-powered bike lane that lights up at night. TPA Instytut Bada Technicznych Sp. z o.o. made the bright blue cycling strip near Lidzbark Warminski in the northern part of Poland. It is made of a synthetic material that can shine for up to ten hours at a time after being charged by the sun all day. The idea was based on Studio Roosegaarde’s Starry Night bike lane in the Netherlands, but the technology is very different. The Dutch bike lane uses LEDs, while this one runs on solar power alone. At the moment, it’s still being tested, but let’s hope that this great idea will be used in other countries very soon.
