Two Boulder, Colorado, police officers were walking along a road one day when they saw a small animal in the middle of the road. When they got closer, they saw a beautiful Northern Saw-Whistling Owl.
They thought that an accident had killed this owl. Then, they pulled the owl off the road to help.
When one of the police officers got close to the owl, she called out, “Hey, what’s up?”
The little owl seemed to be talking to the deputy and answering him. She turned her head and started smiling at the police officer.
She said “Hi” again. This time, the eyes of the owl got bigger as she listened carefully.
The two of them were able to get the owl off the road at this point. They were able to do it well and without any problems. After that, the injured owl slowly flew away.
Later, the police department put out the following statement.
“The Northern Saw-whet Owl is so full of attitude it’s almost bursting. It’s a small owl with a face like a cat’s, a big head, and bright yellow eyes. It can hear very well because its ears are not regular vertically and its ear openings are not all the same shape,” they wrote.
“These owls hunt mostly at dusk and dawn, and they usually use the “sit and wait” method to drop down onto prey on the ground from low hunting perches. Maybe this little guy is trying to set up a trap.”
