Some people believe that the eclipse will start a “massive human sacrifice event.”

The April 8th total solar eclipse is coming up quickly, and some parts of the internet are full of incredible promises. Critics of the official story say that this cosmic event could be the start of a “massive human sacrifice event,” but their evidence is shaky at best.

One theory that is getting support on the r/conspiracy subreddit is based on the idea that the paths of totality from the 2017 and 2024 eclipses crossing each other is significant. They say that this made-up layer makes a “X” near the New Madrid fault line in the United States.

The theorist says that “they,” an unknown group with bad motives, could fake a natural disaster during the eclipse to set off a huge earthquake on this fault line. This idea is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of both eclipses and earthquakes and doesn’t have any solid evidence to back it up. Tectonic action has nothing to do with the path of an eclipse that happened years ago.

The post goes deeper into the rabbit hole and finds more Xs made by the path of the Ring of Fire eclipse, which happens to be close to a Tesla plant. Then, this silly link is added to a story about Elon Musk changing his Twitter name and his partner Grimes posting something on social media that they see as a mysterious message about the eclipse and an upcoming “sacrifice.”

Finally, the user backs up their claim of a planned mass killing by quoting the Deagel Report, which is a questionable population estimate. Fact-checkers, on the other hand, have found many problems with this story.

These ideas smell like confirmation bias and pattern recognition, which is when people see links between seemingly unrelated events. Many failed end-of-the-world claims have been made about eclipses, including the famous “Nibiru” planet hoax of 2017.

The truth is a lot less striking. Eclipses are natural events in the sky, and the biggest risks that come with the upcoming one are that it could hurt your eyes if you look at it closely and that it will cause more traffic.

Instead of giving in to crazy theories, let’s look at how amazing this celestial event is from a science point of view. The complete solar eclipse is one of the few times you can see the Sun, Moon, and Earth moving together in a way that is truly amazing. Now that you have the right eclipse glasses, go outside and enjoy the show!
