For the late four years or so, Blue Dozer – the soft pit bull – has been more than just a loyal friend to his friend OJ – the 12-year-old dachshund. The old and blind, senior dog trusted his friend as he guided him over the world.

Recently, Blue Dozer proved that he never leaves his friend at any time in this world. Sadly for the couple, their owner lost her home and fell on the street. Since she could not take care of her dogs, she handed them over to a local shelter in Richmond with the hope of they would find a warm home. However, she pleaded with the staff there to keep them together.

“They lived in her car for a while and she’s been dealing with other personal things recently,” Richmond Director of Animal Welfare and Control, Christie Chipps  Peters said for The  Dodo. “She wanted them to find a new home together!”

But Christie and the other volunteers soon realized the reason that the two dogs were forced to stick together. Because the senior dachshund was fully blind, his 6-year-old pittie was not only his convenience but also his seeing-eye friend. Moreover, they were all amazed at how caring and gentle Blue was toward his helpless friend. So, everyone realized that it would not take long for anyone to get interested in these two cute dogs.

“We don’t often see a combination like this,” Peters expressed. “It’s so funny and sweet. Blue is like this super-tough muscular guy, then OJ is a teenage little dachshund. It’s so beautiful to see them together. “They have been best friends for years, so they have this understanding of how to love each other. When we went out, it was like OJ was a little shadow of Blue.

To everyone’s happiness, two days after the couple arrived at the lodge, someone offered to adopt them, and things were turning better for the two dogs. The condition was that they both adopt. Said and done, but then, something terrible happened. A few days after the dogs moved into their new home, he found the helpless OJ  himself by the side of the road. Most likely, he has been discarded by his new owners!

Gratefully, with the help of some humane people, the unbreakable couple finally comes together at the lodge, and this time they will not be separated! Their play is not over, but one thing is for sure, Blue and OJ share a truly remarkable pure friendship!

“We appreciate the outpouring of community support,” the shelter mentioned in a statement. “The only thing that matters is that these sweet dogs get to be together – that’s all we have in the end … we’ll do nothing but snuggle them together  for the next few days.”
